The Kansas City Chiefs sent shockwaves through the NFL last month when they traded wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for draft picks.
Kansas City entered the offseason planning to extend Hill (which was part of the reason the team didn't try to re-sign safety Tyrann Mathieu).
Hill, however, wanted more money than the Chiefs were willing to offer, which resulted in the trade to Miami.
For most of us, the deal came as a total shock.
But it wasn't a surprise for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce.

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Monday that he and Chiefs general manager Brett Veach made sure to keep Mahomes and Kelce in the loop on what was going on with Hill.
They didn't want Mahomes or Kelce to find out about the trade via the media.
This is such a great way to handle this situation. It seems obvious, but we see teams mishandle these types of situations all the time. They don't keep star players in the loop on major personnel decisions then all of a sudden there's dissension between key players and the team (just look at Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns).
Kansas City, though, didn't take that approach. Instead, they communicated directly with Mahomes and Kelce.
It might seem like a small detail, but it's an important detail. Mahomes and Kelce, presumably, know the long-term plan for Kansas City. And it seems like they're ok with that plan.
Kansas City continues to be one of the more well-run organizations in the NFL.
