According to a report from ESPN's Field Yates, the Kansas City Chiefs signed wide receiver John Ross to a reserve/futures contract on Monday.

Ross, a former Washington standout, was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Oddly enough, Ross was drafted one spot before the Chiefs selected quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Ross has elite speed (he ran a 4.22 at the combine in 2017), but he's battled injuries since being selected by the Bengals.

The speedy wide receiver showed in 2018 that he has a nose for the end zone, recording seven touchdown receptions on just 21 catches.

Ross' best season came in 2019 when he caught 28 passes for 506 yards and three touchdowns in just eight games. That's a pretty decent 16-game pace that shows what he's capable of doing if he can stay healthy.

This isn't a bad move for the Chiefs to make. At 27 years old, Ross still has plenty of upside. And while he probably is never going to live up to the hype of being drafted No. 9 overall, he could still be a nice addition to Kansas City's offense. If nothing else, perhaps Chiefs fans will get to see a couple of long touchdowns from the veteran wide receiver.
