No need to remind everyone of the 2018 AFC Championship game, but we may have to in this one. Kansas City didn't win this game. However, they came back big and could have won if given a chance.
But we have seen Kansas City do the impossible so many times now, especially in the Playoffs. There is something different about this team when the postseason comes.
They play harder, smarter, and better. Even on defense, the Chiefs tend to step it up this time of year. We have seen different facets of their play come December and January.
Now, back in the Superbowl, they may not be able to afford to go down big. This Buccaneers team will put their foot on the gas and stop at nothing.
Let's take a look back at the games they were down big, and just how they prevailed. It may make some fans pumped up before the big game.
Chiefs Recent Playoff Comeback History
It all starts with 2019, the Chiefs Superbowl run. Of course, they had a bye and did not play the first week of the playoffs. However, the Houston Texans came to town the next week.
Surely most people thought it was over for Kansas City, and rightfully so. The Texans were up by 24 points at one point. With Deshaun Watson at the helm, it looked as if they were going to hold their lead.
Then Mahomes and company had to spoil Houston's Kansas City vacation. Imagine being ahead by 24 points, then somehow losing by 20—That's exactly what happened to Houston.
In the very next round, Kansas City found themselves in a similar situation with the Titans. Tennessee went up by ten points a few different times. However, due to Mahomes' big run before the half, the momentum shifted in favor of Kansas City.
From there, the Chiefs found themselves in their first Super Bowl in 50 years. With San Francisco up throughout the game, it was the defense this time that helped get the Chiefs back within distance.
We all know what happened after that—the joyous celebration of snow angels in the confetti, with each piece covering the entire field. Not to mention, right from that moment was when the "#RunItBack" campaign started.
The Chiefs have already overcome several obstacles to get back to the greatest football game ever. Through injuries, COVID, and being behind, they have persevered.
Along the way, they had to complete another playoff comeback. The Buffalo Bills came to town and had a nine-point lead to start the game due to a muffed punt.
Kansas City was Kansas City, which quickly turned into a 38-15 game and finished at 38-24. Hopefully, this next Sunday, they won't have to complete a comeback.
