Kansas City Chiefs, Blake Bell

The Kansas City Chiefs lost a veteran player during their preseason game against the Washington Commanders, and now the most recent news is that he will miss some significant time.

Blake Bell, the backup tight end, will be out for a while after having surgery on his hip flexor.

According to the Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Blake may be out for some time.

When announcing what players won't play against Green Bay on Thursday, Reid stated:

"Blake Bell, he had surgery on that [hip] flexor, he won't play."

Bell played with the Chiefs in 2019 and was the backup tight end. He started seven games and caught eight of his 15 targets for 67 yards.

In 2020, he played with the Cowboys. Last year he came back to Kansas City and had planned on having another solid season as a backup with the Chiefs this year. Unfortunately, things don't always go that way.

He was just starting to show a strong connection with Patrick Mahomes in the preseason. By that I mean the play against Washington where he ran his route, Patrick hadn't found anything yet, so he adjusted his route and came back towards the ball. It was awesome to see.

Hopefully, we will get to see Bell sometime this year. He was a reliable backup for the best tight end in the game. You can't ask for a guy to play his role any better.
