Predicting the Chiefs' initial 53-man roster for the 2022 season

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming up on one of the most difficult processes within the business. They have to cut their current 8- man roster down to 53 by Tuesday, August 30th.
These are hard decisions, but it's something that has to be done. Some of the players that get cut by the Chiefs, will likely make another roster, or at least the practice squad. Derrick Gore and Justyn Ross are on the IR while Lucas Niang is on the Physically unable to perform list, so these guys' names won't make an appearance.
Here are the names I think you will see on the roster come Tuesday.
Offense (25)
Quarterback (2)
Makes the 53: Patrick Mahomes, Chad Henne.
The Chiefs will do this part of their roster the same way they did last season, and carry just two quarterbacks on the 53-man. Mahomes doesn't get hurt a whole lot, and in fact, only has once, and we have seen Henne orchestrate the offense in a playoff game. I think that's what gets Henne the edge over Buechele.
Running Back (3)
Makes the 53: Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Isiah Pacheco, Jerick McKinnon.
We didn't really see this coming, but I think most people feel the same way. Ronald Jones may not make this roster. It has nothing to do with Jones, really, but the Chiefs didn't expect to fall in love with the seventh-rounder Pacheco as they did. Pacheco has been so good that he could be the second running back on the depth chart. As for McKinnon, we have seen him perform in the playoffs against Pittsburgh last season.
Fullback (1)
Makes the 53: Mike Burton
I think we all know that Andy Reid will not cut the only fullback on the roster. He loves using the position too much.
Wide Receivers (6)
Makes the 53: JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mecole Hardman, Skyy Moore, Justin Watson, Daurice Fountain.
We know how much the Chiefs like to use their receivers, and we also know they like to keep more than five. Since 2018, the Chiefs have always had at least five, and six receivers in 2018 and 2020. This year will be similar, as they had too many guys prove they need to make a roster. Early on this preseason, Justin Watson showed he belonged, and in the last few preseason games, Daurice Fountain showed the same.
Tight Ends (4)
Makes the 53: Travis Kelce, Jody Fortson, Noah Gray, Blake Bell.
Blake Bell will miss some time with a hip flexor injury but is still on the initial 53 for one reason. If the Chiefs placed him on IR before the 53-man cut date, it would end his season. So, what the Chiefs could do is give Bell the initial roster spot. If Matt Bushman clears waivers, the Chiefs could pick him up after the initial date and place Bell on IR then. Bushman played his tail off against the Packers and would definitely deserve that final spot in this position group.
Offensive Linemen (9)
Makes the 53: LT Orlando Brown Jr., LG Joe Thuney, C Creed Humphrey, RG Trey Smith, RT Andrew Wylie, Geron Christian, Nick Allegretti, Prince Tega Wanogho, Darian Kinnard
There are some people out there that think Kinnard won't make the roster. In my opinion, he will. I know he hasn't shown a whole lot just yet, but I think the Chiefs won't give up on their 2022 fifth-round pick too quickly. Kinnard can be a developmental player, as he has shown to have all the tools, and I think that's what the Chiefs will do. Prince Tega Wanogho will likely make the roster.
Defense (25)
Defensive Tackle (5)
Makes the 53: Chris Jones, Derrick Nnadi, Tershawn Wharton, Khalen Saunders, Danny Shelton.
Danny Shelton is the last guy in for this position group. He showed some things during camp after being signed by the Chiefs. They will likely use his size to their advantage in the run game. Khalen Saunders showed some bright spots during camp and the preseason as well, which is why I think the Chiefs will keep those two around.
Defensive End (5)
Makes the 53: Frank Clark, George Karlaftis, Mike Danna, Carlos Dunlap, Joshua Kaindoh.
Some people may not think Kaindoh makes the initial 53-man roster, but I do. The Chiefs took Kaindoh out of Florida State in the fourth round. I don't think the Chiefs will give up on him too easily, and in fact, liked what they saw from him in the preseason.
Linebacker (5)
Makes the 53: Nick Bolton, Willie Gay Jr., Elijah Lee, Leo Chenal, Darius Harris.
The Chiefs drafted Chenal this year in the third round, so he was likely going to make the roster anyways. As for Harris, he showed some things in the preseason that I think we all liked, including his ability to always be where the ball is. While Harris is the last one in, I think he is actually above Chenal on the depth chart, just solely based on the things we have seen on the field.
Cornerbacks (6)
Males the 53:cL’Jarius Sneed, Trent McDuffie, Rashad Fenton, Joshua Williams, Jaylen Watson, Nazeeh Johnson.
Johnson is the last one in of the cornerbacks for obvious reasons. He isn't as far along as the other rookies in this class but still has some potential. Other candidates for this last spot at cornerback include Chris Lammons and Dicaprio Bootle. Johnson has shown more than the two of them in training camp and preseason. Bootle finished the preseason with the most snaps in the position group, so I think the Chiefs got enough of him. Johnson and Lammons both finished with 40 fewer snaps than Bootle at 67.
Safeties (4)
Makes the 53: Justin Reid, Juan Thornhill, Bryan Cook, Deon Bush.
This position group is one of the easier ones. All four of these guys will likely be the safeties for most of the season. As for the two guys on the back end, the Chiefs liked what they saw from both in the preseason, especially Bryan Cook. He was tremendous against the Green Bay Packers.
Specialist (3)
Makes the 53: Placekicker Harrison Butker, punter Tommy Townsend and long snapper James Winchester
The easiest of the position groups. This won't change for a while barring any injuries.
