The Kansas City Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes, one of the NFL’s all-time greatest players. Mahomes is already among the best ever—now, the only two names you could compare above him are Tom Brady and Jerry Rice.

Alongside Mahomes, Travis Kelce stands out as another football superstar, especially with his ongoing relationship with Taylor Swift. While Mahomes may not match Swift’s global fame, he remains highly prominent. This prominence explains Adidas’s eagerness to sign him to a shoe deal.

Now, they are reaping the benefits. Mahomes has established his own brand under Adidas, similar to how Michael Jordan did with Jordan Brand (under Nike), LeBron James with LeBron Brand (under Nike), and Stephen Curry with Curry Brand (under Under Armour), where each athlete’s personal brand operates within a larger sportswear company’s portfolio.

As a result, the Mahomes Brand operates under the Adidas brand, and the company makes the most of this partnership. Now, Mahomes, with his unique brand, achieves something unprecedented for a football player, specifically for his alma mater. He has his own logo on a uniform. Similarly to how the Oklahoma Sooners and Michigan Wolverines are Jordan Brand, Texas Tech is Mahomes Brand.

Texas Tech’s newest uniforms are branded under the Mahomes brand. So, instead of there being a giant Adidas logo on the shoulder like on every other uniform, there is a Mahomes logo, at least on a few of the uniforms. Now, the Texas Tech baseball team has Mahomes Brand uniforms. They are pretty sweet, and Mahomes responded on Twitter with a few fire emojis.

“The time I had at Texas Tech, it helped me grow up,” Mahomes said when the football uniforms first made their debut. “We had great seasons, we had bad seasons, but the people were always there. They would push you to be great every day, whether that was on the field or off of it. I’m unveiling the Mahomes Brand as part of Adidas, in partnership with Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders are off to a bit of a slower start than they probably hoped for before the season. They sit at 7-4, but some adjustments continue to be made.

They have a series with a sweepable Penn State team this weekend, where Jonny Lowe is set to join the weekend rotation. Lowe has been a reliever so far this season and has impressed to the tune of eight strikeouts and zero walks in 6 2/3 innings. He’ll get the Sunday nod as a major opportunity to prove his potential value to the pitching staff in the long term.

Freshman Jesse Rusinek got some social media buzz for the wrong reason earlier this week when he was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated with an open container of alcohol and was also cited for having a fake license. He’s impressed on the field so far, so that’s a frustrating situation for Tech.

As far as stats go, the bats haven’t been the problem for the Red Raiders so far. A trio of players is hitting above .380 in Logan Hughes, Tracer Lopez, and Linkin Garcia. Those three have combined for 50 RBI already this season. On the pitching side, Kaysen Rainieri is a name to watch. He’s been good this season, striking out 14 in 8.2 innings and holding a 1.04 WHIP.

Tech’s series this weekend will be streamed on ESPN+.
