Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will retain a playoff record this season that could have been broken in the wild-card round
Patrick Mahomes has done it all in the playoffs at just age 30.
The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t make the playoffs this year, but fans are still enjoying the games. Without the Chiefs, there’s no weekly emotional rollercoaster. Still, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a stake in one wild-card matchup, so when the Pittsburgh Steelers played the Houston Texans, Chiefs fans took notice.
Mahomes’ place as second all-time in playoff touchdowns was at stake
Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks of all time. He is easily one of the most talented throwers of the ball we have ever seen. On Monday night, he had a chance to move to second all-time in playoff touchdowns. To get there, all he needed was two, as he had one less.
Throwing one touchdown would have tied the record for second place. He couldn’t even do that. Rodgers finished the game with no touchdowns, one pick-six, and a fumble returned for a touchdown. He played pretty badly, especially in the closing minutes. Most importantly, he didn’t pass Mahomes for the second most playoff touchdowns all time.
The most impressive thing about the Mahomes’ playoff touchdown stat is that he’s ahead of Rodgers at age 30. The other glaring thing is that Brady has nearly twice as many TDs as Mahomes.
Mahomes officially cannot lose second place. However, he can’t extend his lead over third place or cut down the gap between second place and first. Everyone knows, though, that once KC is back in the postseason, Mahomes will slowly start inching his way toward Brady.
This is the most talented quarterback of all time that we’re talking about here. This is the best quarterback ever, and he’s chasing the G.O.A.T. Watching a postseason without him will be weird, but don’t get too used to this.
