The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t get the type of seasons they had hoped for or expected from several key players in 2025. You can point to many players, but one of the most disappointing position groups was undoubtedly the wide receiver room.

This group regressed hard in 2025. The trouble starts with Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy. Both had significantly worse seasons than the last time we saw them.

However, with Worthy, who was the player the fan base was most worried about, there appears to be a logical explanation for his sophomore slump. Everyone knew he was injured, but he recently got surgery, according to his Instagram story, with speculation suggesting it was to repair a torn labrum.

Official confirmation of the injury and details have not been reported yet. Worthy is shown in a sling on social media. He may have been playing with the injury throughout the 2025 season, as he dislocated his shoulder in Week 1.

Chiefs fans can breathe a sigh of relief regarding Xavier Worthy

During the season, fans questioned whether Worthy was actually any good. There had been little improvement made from last season, and he was worse than in his rookie year. Throughout 2025, Worthy played with injuries. This shoulder injury that hindered him all season long, which fans knew about, was just one of the many.

If you have to get surgery as soon as the season is over, it’s pretty clear your injury was affecting your game the whole season. Throughout 2025, Worthy really couldn’t high-point balls; he didn’t develop his route-running as everyone expected, and many other factors hindered his overall development.

While there are still a ton of things Worthy needs to work on, it’s safe to say that his injury can help fans be at peace a bit more, especially considering the questionable status of Rice following new off-field concerns. The Chiefs could’ve been looking at a world in which they take another wide receiver high in the draft, and they very well may still do that.

However, if Worthy can get back healthy, it’d go a long way toward alleviating concerns. Especially with a new wide receivers coach expected for the 2026 NFL season. We have all seen glimpses of what Worthy can do, especially when it comes to stretching the field. Now, he’ll get a fresh and healthy start to 2026.
