Chiefs’ 2026 schedule just got far more interesting after trading star cornerback Trent McDuffie
The Chiefs will be looking forward to play McDuffie on the Rams.
On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs traded away superstar cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams. In a way, this makes the Chiefs worse, at the moment. You’re trading away one of the best defensive backs in football.
However, there is a potential for improvement stemming from this trade. Previously, when the Chiefs traded away Tyreek Hill, the team improved and won the Super Bowl, with McDuffie—one of the draft picks from that trade—playing an important role. In fact, they went on to win two Super Bowls after that decision. Similarly, the Chiefs could use this opportunity to retool; it’s not out of the question. One downside, though, is that the Chiefs will now have to face McDuffie again.
Chiefs set to play Trent McDuffie in 2026
Now, the Chiefs’ home and away opponents have been revealed. However, there is no schedule out yet, and there won’t be for some time. We do know that the Rams are one of the Chiefs’ 2026 road opponents.
Not only could the Chiefs be without wide receiver Rashee Rice, but they could also have McDuffie on the other side, locking up Kansas City’s wide receiver room. McDuffie is one of the elite cornerbacks in the league, and a guy who can play on the boundary and in the slot. Where the Rams will play him is a different question. They seem to have some weak spots all over their secondary, but getting McDuffie certainly fixes some of that.
The Rams just got so much better, as that was one of their few weaknesses. They have the quarterback, who just won the MVP. They have the best receiver in football and a good offensive line. On defense, they have a good defensive line, linebacker room, and now a superstar in the cornerback room. It’s clear the Rams are going all in for a Super Bowl this next season, as they were significantly close last season. The Chiefs will now have to face them with even more firepower.
