The Kansas City Chiefs started their quest to replace Tyreek Hill on Thursday by signing wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a three-year deal worth $30 million.

Valdes-Scantling spent the first four years of his career with the Green Bay Packers after being selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Saint Petersburg, FL native, who played college football at NC State and South Florida, has had a solid NFL career so far. In four seasons, Valdes-Scantling has 123 receptions for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Valdes-Scantling doesn't have Hill's speed, but he's still plenty fast enough (he runs a 4.37 in the 40-yard dash) to help Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs stretch the field vertically.

On Thursday, after signing with Kansas City, Valdes-Scantling took to Twitter to express his thankfulness for signing a second contract in the NFL after being cut from his school football team as a freshman.

This has to be a great feeling for Valdes-Scantling. I'm sure when he was cut in high school it would've been easy for doubt to creep in and maybe push him away from football.

Valdes-Scantling, however, kept competing. And he kept getting better.

As a reward, he got paired with Aaron Rodgers, one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, four years.

And now he gets to play with Mahomes, who is already on a Hall of Fame track.

It sounds like the new Chiefs wide receiver knows how rare these opportunities are for athletes. And he more than appreciates it.
