The Kansas City Chiefs took care of business in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs with a 23-12 win over the Houston Texans.
Kansas City is now set to play the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen in the AFC Championship. It’ll be a big battle between two greats with Allen and Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes.
Speaking of Mahomes, he recently was spoken of very highly by Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. James appeared on a DraftKings video where he made quite the statement about Mahomes.
"I think Pat Mahomes is obviously one of the greatest to ever play the sport," the future Hall of Famer said. "He can do everything. He can throw the ball in the pocket. He can go three-step drops. He can go five-step drops. He can roll out on scrambles and make passes. He can throw a sidearm [and] he can throw across the body. An NFL rule is don't throw across the field or throw across your body. He is an exception to the rule because of how great he is."
Mahomes indeed does carry perhaps the best arm angle package that you will find in the NFL. Nearly every week, Mahomes makes a throw outside of the typical arm angle. In the win over the Texans, Mahomes completed 16-of-25 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown.
James went on to share a similarity that he believes that both he and Mahomes have. Both players know what it is like to be at the top of their sport and both have multiple championships.
"I think the best parallel I can think of between Pat Mahomes and myself in our first seven years is that we just changed the way we kind of view the game," James added. "He's doing a hell of a lot better than I did in my first seven years. He got what three chips already? You wouldn't be wrong if you said Pat Mahomes was No. 1 for greatest quarterbacks of all time. You wouldn't be wrong if you said [Tom] Brady."
Mahomes has already made a big impact as the best modern-day quarterback currently playing the game. Another championship this season could go a long way toward Mahomes eventually being regarded as the best ever. LeBron, an acknowledged sports fan, respects the greatness that he sees in Mahomes and that surely works vice versa.
Chiefs and Mahomes will be back in action next Sunday where they will have the chance to punch their ticket to another Super Bowl.
