A certain NFL player is on the minds of a lot of Chiefs fans, and he’s not on Kansas City’s roster
Never say never.
New season, same problems for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Just like in 2024, the Chiefs already have concerns with their wide receiver corps in 2025. Xavier Worthy sustained a separated shoulder on the opening drive of Kansas City’s Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, and Rashee Rice is suspended until Week 7.
Among the many games played on Sunday was the matchup between the Miami Dolphins and the Indianapolis Colts, in which Miami was blown out 33-8. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa struggled. He threw for just 114 yards and two interceptions, and his top target — WR Tyreek Hill — was visibly frustrated on the sidelines.
Chiefs fans clamor for Tyreek Hill’s return to Kansas City on social media
All of the factors mentioned above have led to Chiefs fans clamoring for the team to bring Hill back. He began his career in K.C. as a fifth-round draft pick in 2016 and went on to have four 1,000-yard receiving seasons and six Pro Bowl selections before being traded to the Dolphins in 2022.
Here are some of the top posts on X as speculation heats up for Hill returning to K.C.
Of course, a trade with Miami sending Hill back to the Chiefs wouldn’t be easy. The Dolphins just paid Hill a $15.85 million option bonus a couple of weeks ago. Giving him that sum of money just to trade him shortly thereafter wouldn’t be a great look.
On the flip side, Miami may want to part ways with Hill after the 2025 season to avoid his monstrous $51.8 million salary cap hit in 2026. If the Dolphins continue to lose, and it becomes apparent they are not pushing for a playoff spot this season, they may want to get something out of Hill rather than just releasing him in the spring.
What would compensation look like for a potential trade between the Chiefs and Dolphins for Hill?
The Dolphins would likely need to eat more of Hill’s salary, as the Chiefs have just a bit over $11 million in cap space. For Miami to do that, it could demand higher compensation.
WRs Amari Cooper and Davante Adams were each traded for third-round picks last year, so that would probably be the minimum to acquire Hill, with the possibility of having to surrender a second-rounder.
