Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been a disappointment for some time, only managing 315 receiving yards for the entire 2023 NFL season. But over the last three weeks MVS has totally redeemed himself, offering an offensive spark just when the Chiefs need it.
He hauled in two huge 32-yard receptions against both the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens in critical moments. Then in Super Bowl LVIII he came in clutch for the Chiefs' first offensive touchdown to take the lead in the 3rd quarter! He may have been left wide open (as you can see in the video Tweet below), but he still made the most important catch of the game to that point for Kansas City.
As of three quarters into the Super Bowl, MVS now has 116 receiving yards and a touchdown in the last three weeks. Good for a 657-yard 17-game pace. Much better than his regular season contributions.
If MVS continues to make big plays in the most important moments he may have a home with the Chiefs beyond 2024 when his contract expires.
