The New York Jets have requested to interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy for their head coaching vacancy.

As reported by NFL Insider Jonathan Jones, Chiefs Assistant General Manager Mike Borgonzi already has an interview lined up with the Jets, so he and Nagy could be a package deal for New York.

Borgonzi has been with the Chiefs since 2009, breaking in as a scout. Other titles he has held with the team include Manager of football operations, Director of player personnel, and now Assistant GM. With that length of experience and being a part of Kansas City's winning culture, Borgonzi has a legitimate shot to land the job with New York.

Nagy has coached under Andy Reid for 12 of the last 16 years, most notably as his offensive coordinator. Nagy had a four-year stint as the Chicago Bears' head coach, compiling a 34-31 record during his time with them. In his first season in Chicago Nagy was named AP NFL Coach of the Year after going 12-4 and winning the NFC North title.

Nagy followed that year up with two 8-8 records and 6-11 in his final year, getting fired at the conclusion of the 2021 season. He returned to K.C. as the quarterbacks coach in 2022 before being elevated to offensive coordinator in 2023. He and Reid have done a nice job navigating through several key injuries, and the Chiefs offense' is currently playing at it's best heading into the postseason.

If Nagy doesn't end up getting the job with the Jets, he could be on other team's radar who have head coaching vacancies. It will be interesting to see who replaces him in the event he leaves. Reid typically hires from within, but keep an eye on Doug Pederson, who was just fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Like Nagy, Pederson was a longtime assistant of Reid's, and served as K.C.'s offensive coordinator from 2013-2015.
