The Kansas City Chiefs have made a pair of roster moves to correspond with their trade for wide receiver Mecole Hardman and the return of suspended defensive lineman Charles Omenihu

Some might consider the moves made as questionable.

According to multiple reports, the Chiefs have waived WR Montrell Washington and rookie DT Keondre Coburn from the 53-man roster in order to make room for the aforementioned players.

Coburn is the most notable decision here as he was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He's appeared in just one game so far this season in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. Should he clear waivers, he might return to the practice squad, but even subjecting him to waivers is a risk.

Washington was a promising return specialist in Kanas City, who earned a spot on the 53-man roster after he made some things happen as a standard elevation from the practice squad. He was averaging 20 yards per kick return on one return and 7.6 yards per punt return on eight returns. Dave Toub confirmed the Chiefs intend to try and get Washington back on the practice squad as well.

Chiefs fans are usually pretty much in lock step with Brett Veach on roster moves such as these, but this is undoubtedly a risk to put two young players on waivers.
