The Kansas City Chiefs are making a move ahead of the NFL's Oct. 31 trade deadline and reuniting with an old friend.

As first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are acquiring WR Mecole Hardman from the New York Jets in a swap of late-round draft picks. The former 2019 second-round draft pick for Kansas City left in free agency this past offseason on a one-year deal worth up to $6.5 million.

Kansas City will pay a prorated salary to Hardman for the remainder of the 2023 NFL season, much more in line with what they can afford salary cap-wise.

For whatever reason, Hardman never caught on the the Jets. He appeared in just two games and caught a single pass for six yards. K.C., however, has found itself lacking consistency and deep threats in the passing game. Hardman should help the team in that regard being that he's known for his field-stretching speed.

Hardman previously appeared in 57 regular-season games for the Chiefs, including 26 starts. During that span, he caught 151 passes for 2,088 yards and 16 touchdowns, along with 20 carries for 125 yards and two touchdowns. On special teams, he had 62 punt returns for 555 yards and a touchdown. Hardman also appeared in 10 career playoff games, including Super Bowl LIV and Super Bowl LV. During those 10 games, he caught 22 passes for 226 yards and two scores, alongside 11 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown.

No word yet on the roster move to make room for Hardman in his return, but this certainly complicates the 53-man roster makeup with the team also needing a roster spot for DL Charles Omenihu.
