Mike Tirico sums up Chiefs’ 2025 NFL season with the perfect piece of commentary in Week 14 disaster vs. Texans
It’s time for the 2025 Kansas City Chiefs to pack it in.
Not much went right for the Kansas City Chiefs during the Week 14 loss against the Houston Texans on “Sunday Night Football.”
On the opening offensive play of the game, they lost their backup left tackle to a knee injury. Injuries, penalties, drops, and more marred the entire game. It was a true comedy of errors. The first half could only be described as a direct result of Murphy’s Law: Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
When the team finally looked like it was putting a successful offensive drive together, a sack on Patrick Mahomes would derail it. At the very least, it set up Harrison Butker for a 43-yard field goal. But Harrison Butker would miss the kick, which hit the right upright with a loud “doink” echoing throughout a stunned Arrowhead Stadium.
“No good,” NBC Sports play-by-play analyst Mike Tirico said in response to the miss. “And that is Kansas City, 2025.”
Week 14 vs. Texans a microcosm of Chiefs’ 2025 NFL season
Harrison Butker’s missed kick marked his eighth missed kick (extra points & field goals combined) of the season. He’s now tied for the most missed kicks in the league during the 2025 NFL season. The doinked kick was much more than simply a missed chance at points, though. It represented everything that has gone wrong for the Chiefs in the 2025 NFL season. Even executing the simplest of football plays has become painstakingly complicated and convoluted for this football team.
There seems to be an endless supply of misfortunes awaiting around every bend for this particular team on a given down-and-distance. They’ve lost their mojo for making plays when it matters most, but they’re also losing on the margins. There are far too many miscommunications, dropped passes, free rushers, overthrown passes, penalties, questionable play-calling, perplexing personnel decisions, and don’t even get me started on the number of third-and-long conversions. When the team seems to gain some momentum, as it did on defense for a good chunk of the second half, something is waiting to throw them off their game. It’s just a matter of time.
They’re consistently inconsistent, which Mike Tirico seemed to capture perfectly in that very moment with his commentary. Butker’s kick was very much like the Chiefs’ 2025 NFL season: No good.
