You can bet that the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills game was one of the NFL’s most-watched games this season.

Unfortunately for the NFL, that means that the millions of viewers witnessed a really controversial rule by the NFL that was on display.

Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman took off on a short play for the goal line and fumbled out of the end zone. By rule, when an offensive player fumbles out of the opposing team’s end zone, the ball is given to the team on defense at the 20-yard line.

Kansas City went on to win the game by a score of 27-24, but the fumble out of the end zone could have been very costly with the stakes at their highest. A Tyler Bass missed field goal from 44 yards out with under two minutes could have tied it.

The rule is a bit aggressive and heavily penalizes the offense, one could say a bit too much. While the Bills did not score off of the turnover, it was a point in the game where the Chiefs would have been able to take a 34-24 lead early into the fourth quarter

This off-season, the NFL will be faced with the task of addressing this rule. Either they’re going to stand on it, or we’re going to see a modification to the rule. Chiefs Kingdom is going to be tuned in to what happens with the rule for obvious reasons.
