The Kansas City Chiefs are set to face the New York Jets on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 4 of the 2023 NFL season.
It's the second primetime game of the year for the reigning Super Bowl champions. Unfortunately, we won't be getting the Patrick Mahomes-Aaron Rodgers matchup that we were all hoping for. Instead, it'll be second-year QB Zach Wilson, trying to steady the ship in the wake of Rodgers' season-ending injury.
Which team will come out on top? Here's everything you need to know to take in the game on Sunday:
Kansas City Chiefs (2-1) at New York Jets (1-2)
Date: Sunday, Oct. 1
Time: 7:20 p.m. CT
Location: MetLife Stadium – East Rutherford, New Jersey
Betting odds: Chiefs -9, Over/Under 41
How to watch on TV: KSHB-TV (NBC Local/National).
Streaming: FuboTV, YouTube TV, NFL+, Network apps, etc.
Radio: WDAF (106.5 FM or on Chiefs mobile app)
Slowing down the Jets' running game
The Chiefs have been upfront about what they fear most about this Jets offense — the running game. Slowing down the three-headed monster of Breece Hall, Dalvin Cook, and Michael Carter is going to be key in Week 4. The best way to thwart a running game is to jump out to a big lead.
Primetime Jawaan Taylor?
In the season opener against the Detroit Lions, Jawaan Taylor was put on blast by NBC commentator Cris Collinsworth for his pre-snap alignment. It caused the league to crack down on illegal formation penalties, but really it simply caused the league to target Taylor. This week will either wind up being a repeat of Week 1 or Taylor will have figured things out and taken some heat off himself. There is likely little-to-no in-between.
3 players to keep an eye on:
RB Jerick McKinnon: Fresh off a two-touchdown performance in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears, McKinnon is once again looking like a catalyst to the team's offensive success. Can they get him involved in the passing game in two consecutive weeks?
TE Travis Kelce: According to Jets HC Robert Saleh, the team might wind up placing CB Sauce Gardner on TE Travis Kelce in coverage in certain occasions. They had success doing it last season against Ravens TE Mark Andrews. Will we see a clash between former Cincinnati Bearcats on Sunday?
CB Nic Jones: With Jaylen Watson ruled out due to a shoulder injury, it looks like the seventh-round draft pick is due to make his 2023 NFL season debut. He'll likely be relegated to backup duties, but he was a standout during training camp and the preseason. If he gets some action on defense, it could prove valuable in the future.
