Even though they have one of the best three cornerbacks in the league in Trent McDuffie, the Kansas City Chiefs needed to address the cornerback position in some way through the 2025 NFL Draft. What round they did that was always the question.
So, they went into the third round, maybe with the idea of drafting a cornerback, but not with the idea that the best player available on their board would be Nohl Williams, the stud corner from Cal. Williams led FBS in interceptions last year with seven, and had a touchdown via kick return. How he was still available is a question in itself.
The Chiefs struggled down the stretch of the season last year when it came to the other guys around McDuffie in the cornerback room. Getting a guy who has very obvious potential, but can also help right now, is a huge win in the third round at pick 85.
And, he believes his game will translate to the pros, and he's so eager to get to work.
"How am I going to translate to the NFL? Well, just learn from guys like Trent McDuffie, come to work every day, and just keep honing my craft, keep perfecting my craft," Williams told reporters via Zoom after he was drafted.
If there is anyone good to learn from, it's McDuffie, who is easily a top-three cornerback in the league, and you can even argue that he is the best if you prefer the way he plays over the way Denver Broncos CB Patrick Surtain plays.
Giving McDuffie some more help is crucial. It will only help them unlock more of McDuffien in 2025, and you know he's going to try and have his best year, as he has something to prove considering the Chiefs just picked up the fifth-year option on him and George Karlaftis' contracts.
Williams will be in good hands if McDuffie is his vet, teaching him everything he knows.
