The disappointment shrouding the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 11 loss to the Denver Broncos overshadowed a career milestone for TE Travis Kelce. However, his quarterback made sure that wasn’t entirely the case after the game.

With a 21-yard catch-and-run touchdown, Kelce became the franchise leader in total touchdowns with 84, surpassing former Chiefs RB Priest Holmes. He previously tied Holmes’ record in the Week 8 game against the Washington Commanders, but now he holds the record all on his own.

Reporters swarmed the star tight end to ask him about the accolade as he exited the locker room, only to be met with a curt response, according to The Ringer’s Lindsay Jones.

“If you’re gonna ask about the record, I could care less about that right now,” Kelce said.

It’s not the first time that Kelce has made it clear that winning ranks above all else.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes says what needs to be said about Travis Kelce’s record-breaking touchdown

Kelce didn’t just break a franchise record on Sunday afternoon; he did it in a fashion typical of a future Hall of Famer. With their backs against the wall on third-and-long in the fourth quarter, Kelce caught a pass short of the sticks, shook Broncos S Talanoa Hufanga, and rumbled 21 yards for a touchdown to give the team the lead.

For Mahomes, the play not only represented Kelce’s big-time playmaking ability but also the work he puts in behind the scenes every single day.

“He deserves it, the work that he puts in every single day,” Mahomes said of Kelce earning the franchise record. “Obviously, people watch the gameplay, and the game days, and playing on the field and stuff like that, but he’s a leader. He’s someone that comes to work every single day, and puts the time in, and so it just speaks to the person that he is that he’s able to go out there and break that
record. That was a great play and a big moment in the game, and that’s when he usually makes his big plays.”

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce is putting together quite the impressive age-36 season

If 2025 winds up being the last go for No. 87, he might not go out with the postseason glory, given the team’s 5-5 record. He’ll undoubtedly have the type of individual success during the 2025 NFL season to hang his hat on in retirement. As things stand, Kelce’s 50 catches rank fourth, his 631 receiving yards rank second, and his four touchdowns rank fourth in the league among tight ends in the NFL this season.

If Kelce maintains his current pace, he’ll notch his ninth season of 85 or more receptions, his eighth season of 1,000 or more receiving yards, and his sixth season of seven or more touchdowns. Even if his individual success isn’t translating to team success, it’s hardly the type of season to scoff at for the 36-year-old.
