Patrick Mahomes tells the cold hard truth about the reality of this 2025 season with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs never know when tight end Travis Kelce is going to retire.
The Kansas City Chiefs have the best duo in NFL history. No matter what you say, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce are that. The stats don’t lie, either. However, the last few years, it feels like you can kind of tell that the end is near. You never know when the end will come, but you can tell that it’s a lot sooner than you’d like for it to be.
Last season, Kelce contemplated retirement. He came back, is having a good year statististically, but you still just don’t know what will happen after the season is over. Mahomes knows that, too, so he is cherishing every single moment.
Mahomes is making sure he doesn’t take this time with Kelce for granted
“Every season I have had with him [tight end Travis Kelce] I try to cherish because you never know,” Mahomes said earlier in the week. “He got himself in great shape this year and has played great football. He will have the option to do whatever he wants to do after this season. But I know one thing, he will give everything he has the rest of the season to try and give us a chance to make a playoff run.”
When you have the conversation about this possibly being Kelce’s last season, it makes more sense now that the Chiefs are on he outside of the playoff race looking in. They’re 6-7, and while they still have a small chance to make it, it feels like even if they did, KC would be eliminated fairly early.
Kelce is having a decent year, and the stats are there. Now, last week against the Houston Texans, he wasn’t that good. He dropped a ball which led to an interception. But, overall, he’s been better than he was last season. The Chiefs have struggled on offense, though, and that’s led to some frustrations that are easy to read through their body language.
If this is the last season we get to see the greatest duo ever, it would make too much sense.
