Patrick Mahomes sends strong message to Texas Tech football as they clinch College Football Playoff spot
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes played at Texas Tech.
The Kansas City Chiefs may not make it to the postseason for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era. They still have time, but HC will need help from other teams, and they have to win the rest of their games. Ironically, the one time Mahomes likely won’t make it, his Alma Mater will.
On Saturday, Texas Tech football clinched its spot in the College Football Playoff with a Big 12 Championship win over the BYU Cougars. Mahomes went to Texas Tech, where he was pretty dang good his last year, even throwing for 700 yards in a game. Unfortunately, his team as a whole wasn’t good enough to make the postseason in college football. So, you have to know that Mahomes is excited for his team.
“Proud of them boys! Big 12 Champs! Congrats! @TexasTechFB Job not done!!! #WreckEm,” Mahomes tweeted out after the game.
Texas Tech can make some serious noise in the College Football playoff
The Texas Tech Red raiders are not a team that many expected to be here just a year ago. However, they made some big time moves in the offseason, have taken advantage of the new NIL system in college football, and are in phenomenal shape to play a playoff game. On Saturday, the Raiders won their first ever Big 12 Championship.
Some think that because the Red Raiders are in the Big 12, that they don’t play real competition. Because of that, people also think that Texas Tech would be an easy team to beat in the postseason. That just couldn’t be further from the truth.
Not only does Texas Tech have an elite defense, one of the best in the country, they also have a pretty good offense. It’s struggled in the red zone as of late, but it’s found a way to continue to win game even though the red zone issues have come against other great defenses.
There is NFL talent all throughout their roster. Now, is this a team many, or any, have winning it all? Probably not. Can they? In this current day and age of college football, crazier things have happened. Mahomes will surely be cheering on his team while he tries to do what Texas Tech just did.
