The Kansas City Chiefs can’t consistently do what it takes to win football games. They did it last week against the Indianapolis Colts, but it basically took a miracle and Patrick Mahomes being Patrick Mahomes. Against the Dallas Cowboys, they couldn’t do it.

And they wasted what’s a pretty insane stat about Mahomes: according to Nate Taylor of ESPN, the Chiefs were 12-0 when Mahomes threw at least four touchdown passes and no interceptions in a game, including the playoffs. That loss marks just the fourth time in Mahomes’ career that he’s lost a game when throwing at least three touchdowns and no interceptions, as he’s now 31–4 in such games.

Chiefs refuse to make things easy on themselves

This team, somehow, is still not out of the playoff race. But, man, the odds are starting to dwindle. If they want to secure a postseason spot, they need to win their remaining games and hope for other results to go their way. It feels like it’s getting to the point where there’s no hope for this team if they don’t make the postseason. You know, everyone always says, ‘all they have to do is get to the playoffs, then they can make some things happen.’

It doesn’t really feel like that anymore. Kansas City used to be the team that everyone wanted to avoid. It seems this team is now one that other teams wouldn’t mind playing. The defense can’t rush the passer, which forces other major issues, such as giving up big plays. The offense can’t consistently run the ball, and they can’t score in the red zone, it seems, which limits their ability to close out games.

Even if the Chiefs did make the postseason, they aren’t really good enough to reach the Super Bowl as they have in the past. Used to, the Chiefs could just hide their biggest issues until they got to the big one. At this point, if they did make it, who’s to say they even win one game?

Kansas City just doesn’t have the same fire it used to. They don’t have the same will or desire they once had. The dybasty has taken a toll on them, and they’re tapped out for this season.
