When Taylor Swift was performing at Arrowhead Stadium in July 2023 on her Eras Tour, Travis Kelce was in the audience, and all he wanted to do was give the singer a friendship bracelet with his number on it.

“If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets, and I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it,” Kelce said on the New Heights podcast right after her concert. “I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings.”

But the singer saw and heard about Kelce reaching out, and that’s why, when she finally appeared on the New Heights podcast two years later, she detailed why she credits the podcast with getting her a boyfriend.

“This podcast has done a lot for me. I owe a lot to this podcast,” Swift said on the episode that aired on Aug. 13. “This podcast got me a boyfriend ever since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app about two years ago.”

And with that, she explained how it all went down from her point of view. In her words, she has “never seen the original” friendship bracelet.

“They didn’t leave the stadium because I was butt hurt, Jason,” Travis chimed in.

“He threw a tantrum,” Swift added. “He threw a man tantrum. It’s so funny.”

Swift didn’t stop there, recapping the entire story.

“It was such a wild romantic gesture to be like, ‘I want to date you,’ on (a podcast,” Swift explained. “First when I looked at it, I was like this dude didn’t get a meet and greet and he’s making it everyone’s problem. That’s what I thought at first.”

“You come to Arrowhead, I get to meet you,” Travis responded. “That’s the perk of playing for the Chiefs.”

“You realize he didn’t even reach out to our management. I was like, when this podcast came out, I was like, ‘did he ever reach out to be in the tents or did we know he was in the building,” Swift said. “He came with Pat, and he thought that because he knows the elevator lady that he could talk to her about just getting down to my dressing room… He was really just like, ‘I know a guy, I can figure this out.’”

Swift compared it to being in an ’80s John Hughes movie, directly referencing “Say Anything.”

“He was just like standing outside my window with a boombox just being like, ‘I want to date you? Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet, do you want to date me?,” Swift added. “So I was like, if this guy isn’t crazy, which is a big if, this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.”

So, her impression of Travis after not getting to see her following the concert: “I’m upset that you didn’t meet me even though you didn’t know I wanted to meet you because I didn’t do any proper logistical planning.”

“Who plans nowadays?,” Travis cut in, while Jason said it was a “typically Kelce” move.

“It was wild, but it worked, and I’m glad it worked,” Swift stated. “I’m just circling back to New Heights to say thank you for this.”

Swift and Kelce truly got their love story, and now we get to hear both sides of how it all came to be.
