NFL legend Tom Brady thinks the Chiefs remain the team to beat because of Patrick Mahomes' leadership

Greatness knows greatness.
As former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady transitions into the next phase of his career, he's watching a new dynasty arise. If the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, they're looking at the greatest five-year stretch of any team in NFL history. That includes Patriots teams led by Brady.
So what exactly does Brady think of Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes? Brady weighed in while appearing on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd." He knows that Mahomes is a student of the game, someone who is always eager to compete and to learn from those who push him to be great. Brady also knows that Mahomes' leadership is a major reason for his success, even more than his bravado on the football field.
"I think Patrick (Mahomes), obviously, he's a tremendous player," Brady said. "He's a great leader. That's one part, everyone would look at a pass that's a no-look pass. I look at how do his teammates care about him? Do they respond to him? That happens week in and week out with him. They're always the team to beat because he can play at an elite level and bring his teammates along with him. I saw that a lot when I played Peyton Manning, who was the same way. When I played Drew Brees, when I played Philip Rivers, when I played Brett Favre. These are guys who were great leaders for their team and you see why they were always knocking on the door."
As much of his opponents that he sees in Mahomes, Brady also sees a lot of himself. How he goes about his practice and preparation is what stands out most in these defining moments in the postseason.
"I had a lot of other players behind the scenes who pushed me every day at practice to be a little bit better," Brady continued. "All the defensive players, they were as competitive as I was. I wanted to get the best of them every day and they wanted to get the best of me. I felt like we were always so battle-tested in these moments. We'd get the No. 1 seed because we played well over the course of the year and then we'd go out that first week when we weren't playing and we'd get ready like we were playing in the Super Bowl. We had competitive drills, two-point plays, end-of-game situations, two-minute drills, and Coach Belichick was pushing us to make sure we were sharp in those situations."
The legacies of Mahomes and Brady will forever be compared. The truth is that they're both among the greatest to play their game in their own right. When it's all said and done, nothing that either of them will have accomplished in their NFL careers will discredit the greatness of the other.
