A former member of the Kansas City Chiefs is hanging up his cleats after an improbable decade-long NFL career.
At 32 years old after 10 seasons across three different teams, former Chiefs center Mitch Morse has called it a career. A second-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft during John Dorsey's tenure as GM, the former Missouri Tiger switched from college offensive tackle to center in the pros. He started at the center position in his first four seasons in Kansas City.
He'd go on to play for the Buffalo Bills for five seasons before finishing off his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars this past year. He was selected to his lone Pro Bowl in 2022 with the Bills.
"The things I'll remember and cherish most about my career are the relationships and bonds I created with my teammates, both on and off of the field," Morse wrote, via the Jaguars on Instagram. "Nothing can replace that, and I will miss it dearly. I want to thank the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars for ten unforgettable seasons. Most of all, I want to thank my wife, Caitlin, and my children Kennedy and Deacon for their constant love and support on this journey. I look forward to spending more time with them as I navigate retirement."
Across three teams with a decade in the league, Morse started 156 combined regular season and postseason games. He never played in a game where he didn't draw the start, which shows how good he's been for the last decade.
Morse got just a taste of playing with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. He didn't enjoy the Super Bowl success that would follow, but he was the Chiefs' starter at center for the team's record-setting 2018 NFL season. He played alongside Eric Fisher, Cam Erving, Andrew Wylie, and Mitchell Schwartz on the offensive line that season.
Alongside his teammates, Morse helped the K.C. offense score at least 26 points in every game, an NFL record. He helped the team score 565 points, the third-most in a single season in NFL history (the 2024 Detroit Lions came close to tying/passing that record). That year, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce became the first pair of teammates to ever have over 1,300 receiving yards and 10 touchdown catches in a single season.
Morse will always be able to look back on his NFL career and hang his hat on that. He wasn't just part of one of the best Chiefs offenses of all time but also one of the league's best offenses ever.
