The Kansas City Chiefs are getting a depth player back from injured reserve at a key position, potentially for the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens.

According to the NFL personnel notice for Wednesday, the Chiefs have designated OT Prince Tega Wangoho to return from injured reserve. This opens his 21-day practice window, during which the team can activate him to the 53-man roster.

Wanogho suffered a significant quad injury during the team's Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears, which ultimately caused him to be placed on injured reserve. If you'll recall, Wanogho had a brilliant training camp and preseason with no pressures allowed on 61 pass-blocking snaps, mostly working with the second-team offense. He opened up the 2023 NFL season as the No. 2 left tackle on the team's depth chart and their presumed swing tackle.

With the team's offensive line depth taking a hit with an injury to LG Joe Thuney, this IR-return designation comes at the perfect time for Kansas City. Remember, rookie OT Wanya Morris hasn't played in a few weeks due to a lingering concussion. If Thuney were unable to play in the AFC title game, it also would impact the Chiefs' tackle depth, too. Thuney is typically the team's emergency option at left tackle.

The encouraging news about this situation is that Wanogho was a full participant in practice on Wednesday. Should he trend that way for the remainder of the week, the Chiefs could opt to activate him to the 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's game.

While Wanogho doesn't have much NFL experience playing on the offensive interior under his belt, it's worth noting that Chiefs OL coach Andy Heck does mix things up during OTAs and training camp. It's a method to prepare players in the event of an in-game injury forcing them to play out of position. If Wanogho needed to play guard in a pinch, he'd be ready.
