Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid suggested it could happen last week, and now it's officially happening.

Andy Reid announced on Wednesday that the Chiefs are designating WR Skyy Moore to return from injured reserve ahead of the playoff tilt against the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round. The second-year player has been on IR with a knee injury since Week 16 of the 2023 NFL season, but with four games having elapsed he's now able to return to practice.

If you're unfamiliar with how returning from injured reserve works in the NFL, Moore will now have a 21-day window during which he can practice with the team. If he's not activated to the 53-man roster by the end of that window, he'll remain on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

An unspoken rule for Kansas City might delay Moore's return

The fact of Moore being designated to return does not mean he'll play in the divisional round against the Bills.

If you go back and look at the activations that the Chiefs have made this season and in past years, they're typically very cautious about rushing players back from injured reserve. In the case of Moore, expect the team to give him limited practices throughout the week to see how his knee responds to non-contact football activities.

Expect that the team will proceed with caution and decide against activating him for the upcoming game against Buffalo. Instead, they'll allow him at least another week to get acclimated and get his legs back under him. Kansas City would need to advance to the AFC title game to take advantage and activate Moore under that scenario.

Moore has appeared in 14 NFL games this season with eight starts on the year. He's recorded 21 receptions on 38 targets for 244 yards and one score.
