The Los Angeles Chargers are doing everything they can this offseason to support Justin Herbert, from the coaching staff down to the roster.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh landed Mike McDaniel as the new offensive coordinator for Herbert, and now he has to make roster moves in free agency and the NFL Draft.

The Chargers did face a setback after center Bradley Bozeman retired, but they found their answer at center before free agency even began.

Chargers sign center Tyler Biadasz before free agency window opens

The Chargers had a glaring need at center with Bozeman retiring before free agency, and they lucked out with an early free agent, Tyler Biadasz. Biadasz was a hot name after being a surprise release, and he was free to sign anywhere as a free agent. The Chargers quickly signed him to a three-year deal worth $30 million after having him in for a visit.

Biadasz was a key part of the offense and a staple of the offensive line for young QB Jayden Daniels, and he only allowed four sacks in his two seasons with the Commanders. He can also move well in space and pull in the run game to create open lanes for running backs. PFF has him as the 11th-highest graded overall center and the 12th-highest run blocking center in 2025.

Multiple teams were interested in the 28-year-old center, including the Chicago Bears, and the Chargers didn’t want to risk missing out on him. Now, Herbert knows who will be snapping to him next season, and the Chargers need to continue to build the roster.

The Chargers are poised to be active in free agency

The Chargers already made a big splash, and free agency is still just days away. Although Biadasz’s contract hasn’t been updated on OverTheCap’s calculations, the Chargers have the most salary cap space heading into free agency, and they can be aggressive.

They’ll have plenty of tough decisions to make on defense with Khalil Mack and Odafe Oweh as free agents next week, and both would demand notable contracts. The Chargers moved on from Mekhi Becton to save more salary cap space, and Zion Johnson will get a massive payday in free agency as well, so there could be even more moving parts on the offensive line.

Herbert was the most pressured QB in the NFL last season, with 288 pressures on dropbacks, and was sacked the second-most at 68 times. Those numbers aren’t sustainable for any QB, and we saw Herbert battle through the hits and injuries last season. Expect them to be active in free agency to sure up the offensive line and give Herbert another weapon or two as well.
