Chargers’ reason for releasing veteran player may signal the end of his playing career in the NFL
The Bolts are moving on and looking for his replacement.
The Los Angeles Chargers made a difficult, yet obvious, group of decisions along their roster on Wednesday. They moved one from three different offensive players, including tight end Will Dissly for a specific reason.
Chargers release tight end Will Dissly with failed physical designation
According to Aaron Wilson, Los Angeles has released tight end Will Dissly with a failed physical designation. The move will save the Chargers $4 million in cap space.
Failing a physical is a sign that an injury Dissly dealt with last season could still be an issue for him. He recorded just 11 receptions for 97 yards last season because he missed eight games due to ailments. The veteran TE spent two years with the Chargers.
It is possible that this could be the end of the road for Dissly’s career. He will be 30 years old by the time next season kicks off, and it may be a long shot than any team takes the risk of signing him to a new deal.
Although, if he does want to keep playing, a practice squad spot may be the most likely outcome for the former Chargers and Seattle Seahawks pass catcher.
Oronde Gadsden is now the only tight end currently under contract for the Bolts. He impressed as a rookie in 2025 and could start next season. Tight end Tyler Conklin is set to hit free agency as an unrestricted free agent. FB/TE Tucker Fisk is a restricted free agent as well.
LA also released offensive guard Mekhi Becton and waived offensive tackle Savion Washington on Wednesday.
Tight end remains an intriguing point of the roster for the Chargers, who now have the most cap space in the NFL (according to OverTheCap.com) at the time of these moves. We will see how aggressive they are with the biggest names during free agency in the coming weeks.
