Los Angeles Rams finally have chance to see what trade deadline acquisition can do ahead of NFC West title push
Roger McCreary will finally be available for Los Angeles after the Rams traded for him ahead of the trade deadline.
Last month ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline, the Los Angeles Rams made a surprising move to add cornerback Roger McCreary from the Tennessee Titans, swapping Day 3 picks to bring the former second-rounder to Los Angeles.
However, before McCreary could make much of an impact, he was placed on injured reserve with a groin injury. McCreary only played a single snap before the injury, so the Rams didn’t have a chance to see what he could do.
Ahead of their Week 17 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, however, the Rams have activated McCreary off of injured reserve, and head coach Sean McVay relayed that McCreary will be active and will play against the Falcons this week.
Roger McCreary active against Atlanta
With the Titans, McCreary was primarily a slot corner, but the Titans asked him to do virtually everything in their defense. The Rams have a similar plan in place for McCreary in their defense. When they traded for him before the deadline, the point of acquiring McCreary was to free up Quentin Lake to handle other roles across the defense, but injuries to both put a kibosh in that plan.
Against the Falcons, the Rams will be without Josh Wallace, who served as the replacement for both Lake and McCreary over the last few weeks. Wallace suffered an ankle injury and was declared out for their showdown against Atlanta. His future timeline is unknown. McVay reiterated on Saturday that McCreary would be contention to take on Wallace’s role.
Injuries are never fortunate, but the timing of this one worked out for the Rams with the return of McCreary to the lineup. This is a must-win matchup for Los Angeles as they continue to push for the 1-seed in the NFC. Additionally, the Rams own Atlanta’s first-round pick, so the more losses the Falcons have, the better.
