The Miami Dolphins‘ win streak has reached four. Miami came out and hammered the New York Jets via the run game on Sunday, rolling up a whopping 239 rushing yards on 41 carries in Week 14.

That may not be a surprise, but finding out that Miami’s biggest offensive star this season, RB De’Von Achane, only contributed seven carries to the cause certainly changes the outlook of this performance.

Achane posted seven rushes for 92 yards and a score amid another dominant start for the Dolphins, but left with a rib injury after popping an explosive run and getting tackled hard up the sideline near midfield. Achane went into the tent, then the locker room, before watching the second half of Miami’s 34-10 win over the Jets. That’s the bad news. Head coach Mike McDaniel gave us a major update after the game.

Mike McDaniel suggests running back De’Von Achane could have returned to Miami’s win over Jets

Dec 7, 2025; East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA; Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane (28) scores a touchdown against the New York Jets during the first half at MetLife Stadium.

“We got (Achane) looked at, he was hurting, but he was available to come back in the game in an emergency. You worry about breaks, that takes time, (we) didn’t see that. But he will be getting treatment. He was available to come back into the game, I just chose not to put him in there,” said McDaniel after the game.

As far as his prognosis moving forward to Pittsburgh, is it good?

“You know, one would hope! I’ll push all the burden onto the trainers, and push him as much as he can, but the good news is…we do have some other players to hand the ball off to, as well. He’ll be in there if he’s ready.”

Miami Dolphins’ rush leaders this season

  • RB De’Von Achane – 193 carries, 1,126 yards, 7 touchdowns
  • RB Ollie Gordon II – 58 carries, 191 yards, 3 touchdowns
  • RB Jaylen Wright – 42 carries, 172 yards, 1 touchdown
  • QB Tua Tagovailoa – 19 carries, 42 yards

For Achane, the extra day of rest between now and next week’s Monday Night Football date with the 7-6 Pittsburgh Steelers could be a blessing. Miami’s offense is unquestionably better with Achane, especially amid the injury to star wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Miami’s involvement of the running backs in the passing game has dipped over the last two weeks. That is a trend that would figure to continue if Miami is without Achane.

Thankfully for the Dolphins, the worst possible outcomes appear to have been avoided. McDaniel’s postgame comments that they did not see any breaks and that Achane was eligible to return on Sunday against the Jets should have every Dolphins fan feeling optimistic that they won’t need to see those other runners carry the load in Pittsburgh.
