The ‘Ball King’ is the latest coach from Green Bay to migrate to Packers South.

The Miami Dolphins, under the direction of general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley, have been plucking coaches from Green Bay like daisies. The latest hire comes with a memorable nickname that will be sure to be popular with the players if it also makes the trip to Miami this offseason for Miami’s 2026 offseason program.

Defensive quality control coach Wendel Davis is coming to Miami, per Aaron Wilson. Davis was hired by the Packers in 2019 and has served on the defensive staff ever since — including this past year when then-Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley bestowed the title of ‘Ball King’ on him.

“If you see (Davis), please refer to him as BK, or Ball King,” said Hafley this summer. “We want to lead the league in forced fumbles, and I wanted to find a way to emphasize that, so I grabbed Wendel and I said, ‘I have some ideas, but I want you to run with this.’”

The system implemented by Hafley intended to spur competition from the defensive players amongst each other by creating sub-teams within the defense with points awarded for interceptions, forced fumbles, scoop-ups, and more. Davis, as the Ball King, obviously served an important role in championing the message to the players. He’ll now, presumably, look to do the same as the latest migrant from Green Bay to “Packers South” this winter.
