Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes had to show his elite leadership traits during Friday's training camp practice.
During a live team period, cornerback Lamar Jackson made a big sideline hit on wide receiver Kekoa Crawford.
It's the type of hit that's frowned upon during training camp — especially early in training camp when avoiding injuries is one of the top objectives.
After Jackson made the hit, Mahomes quickly ran over to scold the defender for the big hit.
(To be fair to Jackson, he helped Crawford up after the play.)
Here's the video of the hit. You can see Mahomes running straight to Jackson at the end of the play.
That's truly some elite leadership from Mahomes and a great example of why he's respected so much by his teammates.
Crawford is a player that probably won't be on the Chiefs' 53-man roster. But that didn't matter to Mahomes. Kansas City has a standard. And that play didn't mean that standard so Mahomes handled it the way an elite leader should.
I don't think there's any doubt that Mahomes is a man on a mission entering the 2023 season. Complacency is not a word that will be used to describe Mahomes or the Chiefs anytime soon.
