Key Super Bowl stat is an easy way to argue Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes over Tom Brady
The Kansas City Chiefs have the best quarterback of all time. Hold on, slow your roll there. I didn't say the greatest because there is a difference. Tom Brady has the most Super Bowl wins of all time and has longevity that no one will likely have. But who is better at football? It's Patrick […]
The Kansas City Chiefs have the best quarterback of all time. Hold on, slow your roll there. I didn't say the greatest because there is a difference. Tom Brady has the most Super Bowl wins of all time and has longevity that no one will likely have. But who is better at football? It's Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes is the best player ever to play the game of football. No one else has done some of the things he has done, and his first six seasons compared to Tom Brady's first six seasons – well, it doesn't compare.
The argument is now a legitimate argument. In terms of skill, there is no one better than Mahomes. He is the most talented player of all time. In terms of winning, he still has a gap between him and Brady. However, there is now something Mahomes has done in the Super Bowl that may close the gap a little bit.
According to Scott Kacsmar, here is the highest QBR in a Super Bowl-winning postseason since 2006:
1. 2019 Patrick Mahomes – 89.1
2. 2009 Drew Brees – 87.9
3. 2023 Patrick Mahomes – 86.6
4. 2010 Aaron Rodgers – 85.2
5. 2022 Patrick Mahomes – 84.0
6. 2017 Nick Foles – 83.5
7. 2012 Joe Flacco – 83.6
Now, to be fair, Brady won three Super Bowls before 2006 with the New England Patriots. However, he also won four after 2006 with the Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he still isn't on the list. You have guys like Nick Foles and Joe Flacco above him, and Patrick Mahomes has three of those spots.
I'm not saying that Mahomes is the "GOAT" or anything like that. But he is the best quarterback of all time, and this stat certainly helps prove that. When the lights are the brightest, Mahomes performs, just like he just did on Sunday to win the game.
