The San Francisco 49ers have some major holes on their roster. The 2026 NFL Draft can be a big help to fill those.
The San Francisco 49ers are in a very interesting spot and are seemingly nearing the end of their winning window as an organization. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has helped to make a very sustainable product, but injuries and underwhelming moments have stunted them from earning their biggest goals – winning a championship. This team is once again dealing with a long list of annoying injuries so far in 2025.
With quarterback Brock Purdy, running back Christian McCaffrey, and Coach Shanahan all in place, this team will have a chance to make a run if all of the stars align. In order to keep this winning window open as long as possible, continuing to replenish this talented roster is a massive priority. There are certainly holes in this roster, and general manager John Lynch will need to plug them.
The 2026 NFL Draft could offer the 49ers an opportunity to find answers for several underwhelming spots, including at safety. With the No. 30 overall selection in the first round of our recent 2-round NFL mock draft at A to Z Sports, San Francisco selected star USC safety Kamari Ramsey.
One of the more underrated overall prospects in the 2026 class, Ramsey has the talent to become a difference maker on the back end very early on. Here is what I had to say about Ramsey and his potential fit with the 49ers.
49ers defensive upgrade
30. San Francisco 49ers: Kamari Ramsey, S, USC
For whatever reason, not enough people talk about Ramsey as an outstanding overall player. The former UCLA transfer is an incredible communicator on the back end and also plays a tenacious style at safety. Ramsey is also a very underrated athlete, and has made plays both playing on the roof, in short zone, and out of the slot in his career. – Roberts
When the 49ers defense has been their best over the years, they have quietly had some real difference makers in the secondary. That’s the type of impact that Ramsey can bring to the table. He is an incredibly instinctive player who communicates exceptionally well. Ramsey is also a much better pass coverage player than most will give him credit for.
In the second round of the mock draft, the 49ers opted to help their defensive front. With the No. 61 overall selection, San Francisco selected Penn State defensive tackle Zane Durant. While Durant is a smaller body type at 6-1 and 290 pounds, he has some underrated strength and is an explosive interior penetrator. Durant could help to bolster their defensive line early on in his NFL career.
