The New York Jets didn't get a win against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night — KC managed to grind out a 23-20 win — but quarterback Zach Wilson still accomplished something against Patrick Mahomes that no quarterback has ever accomplished before.
According to OptaSTATS, Wilson is the first quarterback (pro or college) to have more passing yards, more touchdown passes, and fewer interceptions in a head-to-head game against Mahomes.
That stat covers 127 of Mahomes' starts.
I'm sure Wilson would prefer to have the win over the stats.
And I'm also sure that it has to be frustrating to outplay Mahomes on paper and still not get a win.
Wilson has to wonder how it's even possible to beat Mahomes after he had a better stat line than the superstar quarterback (plus the fact that the Jets' defense played extremely well against Kansas City).
But that's why Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL right now. Even when he's not at his best, he can still deliver a win for the Chiefs in a tough road game.
