The battle for Indiana has been set with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish welcoming the Indiana Hoosiers to South Bend on Friday, December 20th. You can’t talk enough of the job head coach Curt Cignetti has done with the Hoosiers since taking over this past offseason. He has consistently built up tremendous programs and Indiana is just the latest example.

Thinking back to this past offseason, Coach Cignetti made his expectations known. He wanted everyone to forget about the previous expectations at a place like Indiana, and raise the bar moving forward. When asked about how he was going to turn the program around, Coach Cignetti urged the media to “google me.”

It was a funny moment at the time, but clearly he knows what he’s doing. When you think of Indiana, football is not one of the first things that come to mind. He’s done an almost unbelievable job so far.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman was asked about Coach Cignetti and his thoughts about him during media availability on Sunday. He had a funny response, which undoubtedly had a little bit of shade intended.

“I didn’t know much about him,” Coach Freeman said. “I took a minute and googled him.”

It was a funny comment that went viral for Coach Freeman. Pretty recently, Cignetti had made a comment toward Notre Dame and a slight insult about their loss to Northern Illinois earlier this season. This moment felt like a fun return by the Fighting Irish lead man.

There is undoubtedly a mutual wave of respect between the two coaches. This matchup is set to be a really intriguing one. If Notre Dame wins, it signifies a big step for the program in their quest toward a national championship. If they lose, then you can bet there will be a lot of jokes made about losing to a basketball school in their own state. There’s a lot on the line for Coach Freeman and the team.
