An SEC defender made a statement at SEC Media Days this week about former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker that UT fans will love.
According to ESPN's Chris Low, Missouri defensive lineman Darius Robinson said on Monday that Hooker was the best player he played against last season.
Robinson also said that he felt like Hooker should've been a "major contender" for the Heisman Trophy last winter (Hooker wasn't among the finalists that went to New York for the Heisman ceremony in part because of the torn ACL he suffered in Tennessee's loss to South Carolina in the penultimate game of the regular season).
"The film doesn't lie," said Robinson.
Tennessee's system under Josh Heupel gets a lot of the credit for the Vols' offensive success. But the success that Tennessee experienced last season wouldn't have been possible without Hooker.
The former Vol excelled in the most pressure packed moments of the season — specifically in games against Florida and Alabama — while executing at a high level. Not just any quarterback can be thrown into a system and find the type of success that Hooker found in 2021 and 2022.
Tennessee was fortunate to have the Greensboro, NC native for two seasons on Rocky Top.
