‘Pull the fire alarm’ – Kentucky’s defensive coordinator gives Tennessee’s wide receivers a big compliment

The Tennessee Vols are looking to bounce back this weekend after a tough 37-20 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa last Saturday night.
Tennessee will travel to Lexington for a matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday. It’ll be the Vols’ second straight night road game.
The Volunteers are 4-0 against Kentucky under head coach Josh Heupel.
Kentucky’s defensive coordinator gives Tennessee’s wide receivers a big compliment
Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White was asked on Wednesday how difficult it will be for the Wildcats to slow down Tennessee’s wide receivers.
The Vols’ three starting wide receivers — Chris Brazzell, Mike Matthews, and Braylon Staley — each have over 400 receiving yards this season (the trio has combined for 1,580 yards through seven games this season).
White jokingly suggested that “pulling the fire alarm” at the Vols’ hotel the night before might be the only way to slow down Tennessee’s wide receivers.
“Pull the fire alarm the night before,” said White when asked about slowing down Brazzell, Matthews, and Staley. “Maybe they come down with the flu. I think they’re as good of a trio — I would put them up there with anybody in the country. The way they run their routes, the way they attack the football. They’re long, they’re physical, they’re fast.
“Matthews is super smooth. Brazzell goes up and gets it — you better be strong at the contact point because he’s going to battle his tail off. Staley does an unbelievable job in the slot. And I don’t know, they must train for marathons — because they play the entire game, those three. And they play full speed, non stop. It’s really one of the most impressive things that I’ve seen on film, just how long they play at such a high level. It really is impressive.”
Brazzell, Matthews, and Staley have been forced to play more snaps through the first part of the season due to injuries to some of Tennessee’s younger wide receivers (such as true freshman Travis Smith and Radarious Jackson).
Tennessee might want to make sure that trio’s hotel rooms are far from any fire alarms in Lexington on Friday night
