Former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Darnell Wright is already impressing his new teammates in the NFL.

Wright, who was selected by the Chicago Bears with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, is expected to start at right tackle as a rookie.

The former Vol played both left tackle and right tackle while at Tennessee, but he was most dominant as a right tackle (he allowed zero sacks this past season while playing right tackle in all 13 games — including a matchup against Alabama's Will Anderson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft).

Bears offensive lineman Braxton Jones, a fifth round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, thinks Wright is already ahead of where he was a rookie last season.

“I think he’ll do just great,” said Jones (via NBCSportsChicago.com). “He’s ahead of where I was, for sure, coming into my rookie year. I think Darnell will be perfectly fine.”

Jones also said this offseason that he's been taking some of Wright's techniques and applying them in his own game.

"Darnell was a great pass-blocker at Tennessee, and they would really sling the ball around," said Jones (via Heavy.com). "So, I’ve definitely seen him, and taken some of his techniques away and tried to put it in my game a little bit, too. Obviously, he’s a premier 10th overall pick, so he’s got some tricks and tools that I can take from his game.”

Wright has an opportunity to play a key role for the Bears as a rookie. And if he's successful, it will only help the Vols when it comes to recruiting elite offensive linemen.
