Former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Trey Smith is in just his fourth NFL season, but he'll be looking to add a third Super Bowl ring to his collection on Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
On Monday evening, Smith, who was selected by the Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, spoke to the media at the opening night of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
The former Vol told Titans Online's Jim Wyatt that he plans to reside in Tennessee once his playing days are over.
"You know, I love Tennessee man," said Smith. "I love the folks at Tennessee. I want to stay there when I'm done playing. I want to reside there as my home. It's what what I know, it's what I love. I think it's special that I've been blessed with this opportunity to do this. And I'm just proud and thankful for the support that I have back in my home state."
Smith is set to be a free agent this offseason and he could end up being the top paid guard in the NFL.
The Tennessee native has been one of the biggest bargains in the NFL over the last four seasons due to falling to the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Smith fell in the draft due to concerns over blood clots that he dealt with during his sophomore season at Tennessee.
Over his first four seasons in the NFL, Smith has started 79 games for the Chiefs (including the playoffs), proving those concerns were misguided.
Smith's message for those who doubted him coming out of Tennessee?
"Yeah, they were wrong, I was right," said Smith.
That might be the understatement of the decade.
