Hendon Hooker, the former Tennessee Vols standout who last season led UT to their first win against Alabama since 2006, is a quarterback through and through.
The Greensboro, NC native, who was selected by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has made it clear since leaving Tennessee that he plans to have a terrific NFL career as a signal-caller.
And I'm not just talking about a long career where Hooker bounces around with various teams until he retires in his late 30s. Nope, Hooker wants to win championships. He wants to make such an impact for an NFL franchise that they build statues.
"I want to be a dynasty quarterback, build a franchise up, and win a Super Bowl," said Hooker earlier this year during an interview with the Indy Star. "I hope wherever I go I can have as huge of an impact as (Peyton Manning ), whether that's the Colts or somewhere else."
"I want to get me a statue," added Hooker.
That sounds like a player who's never thought for a second about playing another position.
But while Hooker is 100 percent a quarterback, there is another position on the football field that he thinks would be fun to play.
Safety.
That's right. If Hooker wasn't playing quarterback, the 6-foot-4 former SEC offensive player of the year would want to hit opposing offensive players.
The Lions' official Instagram account recently posted a Q&A with Hooker where he was asked what position he'd play if he didn't play quarterback.
"Safety. It's the quarterback of the defense," responded Hooker. "You get to see everything. You get to fly around and hit some people."

Unfortunately for Hooker, he won't be getting a chance to hit players in the NFL — unless he throws an interception.
And throwing interceptions isn't something that Hooker does very often. During his two seasons at Tennessee, Hooker threw just five interceptions in 24 games.
