The Tennessee Vols' battle for a key five-star recruit has tightened up a bit after recent visits.

2024 five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews is one of the Vols' top remaining recruiting targets.

Matthews, 6-foot-1/180 lbs from Lilburn, GA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 3 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 9 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

In late May, On3's Josh Newberg predicted that Tennessee will land Matthews.

While the Vols are still at the forefront of Matthews' recruitment, it's far from a "sure thing" that Tennessee will secure a commitment from the talented wide receiver.

On3's Chad Simmons noted on Tuesday that official visits have made things "a little more blurry" for Matthews.

From On3: Heading into June, Tennessee was a school with some buzz around it. Clemson and USC were two others, especially the Trojans. After official visits to Clemson and Georgia, this has gotten a little tighter between all four schools. Georgia made a pretty significant move over the weekend, but official visits to Los Angeles and Knoxville are still to come. This one could go a few different ways.

Tennessee can jump back in front with a great official visit, but it's clear that this recruiting battle is going to go down to the wire.

Matthews will visit USC this weekend before heading to Knoxville on June 23 for an official visit.

The Vols currently have 11 players committed to their 2024 recruiting class which is ranked No. 11 in the nation.
