The Indianapolis Colts came away with a narrow win in Week 13 vs. the New England Patriots in Week 13 to enter their bye week on a high note.

But the NFL is bringing one Colts player back down to earth with them giving linebacker E.J. Speed news he did not want to hear.

The NFL announced that it is fining Colts LB EJ Speed $22,511.00 for illegally using his helmet, which the NFL deemed "Unnecessary Roughness." The hit came during the first quarter on a play where Speed was tackling Patriots tight end Hunter Henry. The play wasn't flagged by the officiating team during the game, but I think anyone seeing it will realize it should have been. Speed leads with the helmet, and there's honestly an argument that he also launches off his back foot.

The NFL obviously thinks the officials made a mistake not throwing a flag here. The league handed out 17 fines across the league from their Week 13 slate. Speed's $22,511.00 fine was the most expensive given out, with the closest being Tyrique Stevenson's $19,697.00 fine for "Unsportsmanlike Conduct." This is Speed's second fine of the season, with his first coming all the way back in Week 3. That fine was significant but not as large as his this week when he was handed a $16,883.00 fine for a tackle to the head/neck area that the league deemed Roughing the Passer.
