The Indianapolis Colts are enjoying a much-needed bye in Week 14.
When they return to the office next week, they will begin preparing for their final four-game stretch with their eyes on a spot in the AFC playoffs.
And for one player he also has the chance to make NFL history by etching his name into the record books by tying or breaking a record that was originally set during the 1990-1991 season.
Nick Cross has the chance to etch his name into the NFL record books during the Colts final four games of the season

With four games remaining, Colts safety Nick Cross has recorded 125 total tackles. This is the second most in the NFL, only trailing his own teammate Zaire Franklin, and it is the most by any safety, with him having an 11 tackle lead over second place, which is Budda Baker of the Arizona Cardinals.
To put into context how impressive this number is, with four games remaining, he is 48 tackles away from Hall of Famer Steve Atwater's single-season record for most total tackles by a safety. During the 1990-1991 season, Atwater recorded a whopping 170 tackles.
To get to that total, Cross has to average 12 tackles a game to finish the season. So far in 2024, Cross has recorded 12 or more tackles in a game four times this season. So, to even tie the record, he has a tall task ahead of him. But to even have a chance at this point in the season is beyond impressive. Even if you typically wouldn't want your safety racking up these many tackles. But that's not Cross' fault, and he excels at attacking the ball carrier when they reach his level on the field.
