The Kansas City Chiefs just finished their final piece of business related to the 2024 NFL draft.
According to KPRC2 reporter Aaron Wilson, the Chiefs have signed WR Xavier Worthy to a fully guaranteed $13.79 million contract. It's a standard four-year rookie deal with a fifth-year team option. The No. 28 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Worthy will also receive a $6.849 million signing bonus per Wilson's report.
This appears to be the exact contract value and signing bonus projected by the folks at Spotrac. Most every deal can be projected based on the NFL's rookie wage scale, which was implemented with the 2011 CBA.
We just wrote about some of the potential holdups in Worthy's rookie deal being related to offset language and signing bonus payouts. It appears the Chiefs weren't too far off from hammering out a deal that both parties agreed to.
With Worthy signing his contract, that means all seven 2024 NFL draft picks — LT Kingsley Suamataia, TE Jared Wiley, S Jaden Hicks, OL Hunter Nourzad, CB Kamal Hadden, and OL C.J. Hanson — have signed their rookie deals. They're one of the few NFL teams to have all of their draft picks under contract in June.
This move comes ahead of the conclusion of OTAs and with a mandatory minicamp set for next week. Does that signal Worthy will be making his return to the practice field soon? The rookie has missed several practices during OTAs as he nurses a minor hamstring injury.
