Kansas City Chiefs will soon check another projected top-10 2026 NFL Draft prospect off the team’s pre-draft visit list
The Kansas City Chiefs are hosting one prospect who is considered a surefire top-10 draft pick.
The Kansas City Chiefs already have top-30 visits lined up with two of the top receivers in the 2026 NFL Draft class, including one who is a surefire projection to be selected in the top-10 picks.
The team is already slated to meet with USC WR Makai Lemon for an upcoming visit in Kansas City. According to NFL/CFB analyst and former Commanders team reporter Ryan Fowler, the Chiefs are also among the teams with a top-30 visit scheduled with Ohio State WR Carnell Tate. He confirmed with reporters at the Ohio State Pro Day on Wednesday that he does have that visit on the books. Of those projected as the top three receivers in the 2026 NFL Draft, Arizona State WR Jordyn Tyson is the only one who hasn’t been reported with a pre-draft visit scheduled with Kansas City.
Tate is coming off a season in which he posted 51 receptions for 875 yards and 9 touchdowns, averaging 17.2 yards per catch. He’s considered a pro-ready route runner with elite hands, body control, and ball-tracking skills. Some believe that he’s the best and most complete receiver in the 2026 NFL Draft class.
The Chiefs are set to host Ohio State WR Carnell Tate on a top-30 visit
Tate is listed at just over 6-foot-2, 192 pounds, with 10.25-inch hands and 31.75-inch arms. He ran a 4.53s 40-yard dash at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine and didn’t participate in any other testing. It’s certainly not the record-breaking speed of Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy, and it raises some minor concerns about his ability to consistently generate separation against man coverage as a professional.
At his pro day, Tate focused solely on positional drills where he looked extremely smooth running routes.
Digs, curls, and comeback routes tend to be his most successful, which shouldn’t come as a surprise given how fluid and efficient he is as a mover.
The Chiefs have clear future needs at the wide receiver position. They brought back Tyquan Thornton during the 2026 NFL free agency period, but they lost Marquise Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles. Rashee Rice has proven unreliable off the field, while the verdict is still out on Xavier Worthy after an injury-riddled 2025 campaign. There are also questions about Jalen Royals, who had what virtually amounted to a redshirt year as a rookie in 2025. All of that’s to say, they don’t just have an immediate need to satisfy in the wide receiver room, but also future needs to consider down the line.
