The Kansas City Chiefs are parting ways with rookie LB Isaiah Moore after a training camp injury saw him placed on injured reserve.

According to the NFL's personnel notice for Monday, the Chiefs have reached an agreement on an injury settlement with Moore. This comes following a knee injury that caused Moore to be placed on the team's injured reserve list alongside second-year CB Nazeeh Johnson back on July 30.

NFL injury settlements typically occur with players who have partially guaranteed contracts. Teams will agree to pay players for a set amount of weeks as they recover from an injury suffered during their time with a respective team.

Moore was an undrafted free agent signing out of NC State following the 2023 NFL draft. He was a highly-productive member of the Wolfpack defense from 2018 through 2022, boasting 341 total tackles, 43.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, one interception, eight passes defended, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 55 games played.

Should Moore clear waivers he'll be eligible to rejoin Kansas City at a point later during the upcoming season. The Chiefs have used this method in the past with training camp injuries to lesser-known players as a means to subvert the NFL's injured reserve return rules. Typically, players placed on injured reserve during training camp are not eligible to return during the upcoming season, but that's not the case for those who are waived from injured reserve with an injury settlement.

Just last season the team waived TE Matt Bushman with an injury settlement after he fractured his clavicle in preseason Week 3. They'd later re-sign him to the practice squad in December when he was fully healthy.

Moore was expected to be a standout contributor on special teams as a rookie. He still could wind up being that player should he return to the club after he has fully recovered from his knee injury.
